A Very Good Day at the Ballpark — and Beyond
Today, at Citi Field, is about Tom Seaver. His ten-foot likeness cast in bronze was unveiled outside the stadium across the parking lot from where “The Franchise” toiled at the barn they called “The Big Shea”. There it shall remain among future generations of fans as testimony to his brilliant career and charismatic leadership.
There is, however, a bit of incongruity to this otherwise glorious scenario — a byproduct of Major League Baseball’s labor troubles. Since the start of the season was pushed back by the owner’s lockout, the Mets’ home opener and…
